Vision for the Young School Homeownership Center
In harmony with its original purpose, Young School will be restored as a beacon of hope and a gateway to education for those in pursuit of the strength, stability, and self-reliance that owning a home of your own can provide. Under the banner of the globally proven Habitat for Humanity partnership housing model, Young School will serve as a hub for restorative, responsive, and uplifting activities that bring people together to build homes, community, and hope. No matter who you are or where you are from you will find a sense of belonging here because it is our belief that everyone deserves a place to call home.

This landmark property was named for its benefactor Hiram Young, a successful African-American entrepreneur that was known for empowering those in his care by providing them education and access to real opportunity. Under the direction of Truman Habitat, Hiram Young’s legacy of providing life-changing opportunities that promise generational impact will be preserved through the following:

Home Owner Preparation through Education (H.O.P.E.) Programming
Affordable home purchase and home improvement lending services
Neighborhood and community engagement activities for people of all ages
Residential construction workforce development support for secondary and
Post-secondary education partnerships
